Use Messages with your Mac - Apple Support

iMessage is the Apple messaging service you get automatically with your Apple ID. If Messages asks you to sign in, use the same Apple ID that you use with Messages on your iPhone and other devices. It's usually the same Apple ID that you use for iCloud, the iTunes Store, the App Store, and the account you created when you first set up your Mac.

If you can't sign in to your iMessage account or FaceTime ...

When you first set up Messages on your Mac, you're asked to sign in to your iMessage account with your Apple ID. Messages then automatically attempts to sign in every time you open it. Signing in to FaceTime is similar. If either app doesn't sign in successfully, try these solutions.

Fix Mac stuck on login screen of Big Sur/Catalina/Mojave ...

2. Reset password. Mac could be stuck on the login screen after you forget Mac's password. If you've entered the wrong password too many times, the system could be locked. Then the Mac won't accept the password even it's the right one. In this case, you should reset your password first.
